That “Wait…how do I choose just ten?!” Moment

One of my favorite behind-the-scenes moments actually happens after the session. I once shared a gallery with a lovely family who had booked a ten-image collection, and the mom reached out basically panicking in the best way: “Nicole, how am I supposed to choose only TEN?! I love them all!” 😭❤️

It made me smile so big because it’s a feeling I totally get (even from my side of the camera!). Your babies look adorable, your partner cracked a real, genuine smile, and there’s that one photo where everyone is laughing in a way that feels exactly like your family. So when it’s time to pick your final images, it can feel like an impossible game.

The good news? You’re not alone in wondering about how many photos you’ll get or why that number isn’t “all of them.” This post is here to walk you through what’s included, why it’s set up that way, and how I try to make the process flexible and full of magic.

If you’ve found yourself trying to Google “Why can’t I have every photo from my photo session?”…you’re in the right place. I hear this all the time, and I totally get where it’s coming from. You see a full gallery and fall in love with more than just a handful of moments.

Here’s the truth: You’re not being picky or difficult for feeling that way! The connection, the silliness, the real love in those images – it’s hard not to want every single one.

I’ll explain how I approach this (with lots of heart and care), so you know what to expect and why.

What “How Many Photos” Really Means: A Peek Behind the Curtain

1. It Starts With Storytelling…Then Smart Culling

After every session, I spend hours going through every single image we took together to pull the best moments – the in-focus, joy-filled, personality-packed ones that tell the real story of your family. I’m looking for:

• The image where your toddler’s nose scrunches in that way she only does when she belly laughs.
• The photo where your baby is reaching up toward you with those chubby, grabby fingers.
• That blink-or-you’ll-miss-it moment when your partner wipes a crumb off your shirt mid-snuggle (REAL LIFE!).

I love the real stuff, and I cull with the intention of giving you the very best version of your day. But narrowing down? Whew, it’s hard for me too. I want to deliver a final gallery that honors the session and gives you the freedom to choose what feels most meaningful.

2. Quality Over Quantity…But Still Plenty to Love

Depending on the type of session you book (mini, full, newborn, etc.), your package will include a set number of images for download.

But here’s my little trick: I usually include more images in the viewing gallery than what’s included in your download package. Why? Because sometimes seeing the options makes it easier for you to connect with what you actually want on your wall or in your album.

This also gives you the chance to upgrade if you fall in love with more memories than expected (which happens all the time!).

3. The Editing Process Takes Time (And a Lot of Heart)

Honestly, I wish I could give everyone every photo, all beautifully edited and ready to go. But editing is so much more than choosing a filter or clicking a button. It’s:

• Color correcting so everyone’s skin tones look natural and soft.
• Brightening those sun-soaked shots without losing the real emotion.
• Removing distractions like rogue bugs and photobombing siblings.
• And most importantly, keeping each image cohesive and true to the story.

It takes time to do that well – and I care deeply about delivering consistent, high-quality images that you’re proud to share and display.

So no, you’re not getting “less” because I don’t want to give you more. You’re getting a gallery that’s been loved on from start to finish.

4. Upgrades and Albums = More Flexibility for You

Can’t narrow it down to just ten or twenty? I got you. Many of my collections offer the option to purchase additional images individually or in a bundle.

You can also upgrade to a full gallery if you’d rather skip the choosing and just have it all. Or you can select your favorites and use them in an heirloom album that tells the full story from start to finish. Think of it as bringing the warmth and chaos and cuddles of your session right into your living room.
